National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at the Library
September 30 is a new statutory holiday called National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. WVML remains committed to promoting truth and reconciliation in our community, and so will be open on September 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to share events, resources, and reading recommendations to help you learn and reflect.
Join us for these upcoming events:
Relations First, with Ta7talíya Nahanee Tuesday, September 21, 7 – 8 p.m. Join your North Shore libraries for a virtual introduction to decolonizing your relations to the land, your work, and your community, with Ta7talíya Michelle Nahanee.
Storytelling, Songs, and Crafts with Lisa Lewis Thursday, September 30, 11 – 11:45 a.m. Kids aged five to nine are invited to hear Lisa Lewis read her book Tsunaxen's Journey and learn traditional Squamish songs and crafts.
Indigenous Cinema: Chaakapesh Thursday, September 30, 2 – 4:30 p.m. This documentary follows the 2018 tour by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra to perform Chaakapesh: The Trickster’s Quest, an opera written by Tomson Highway and composed by Matthew Ricketts.
Changing Hours The Library will be closed on Labour Day Weekend (September 5 and 6). Fall hours start September 7! We’ll be open seven days a week, and open until 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Tuesdays, September 14 – October 12, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Join longtime CBC producer Neil Ritchie as he celebrates the unique styles of different artists from the worlds of film, opera, jazz, and more.
