SRC Scoop
We’re past the halfway point! It’s hard to believe that it’s already Week 5 of Summer Reading Club and over 1,000 readers have signed up for our virtual Kids and Teen clubs.
This week is all about music: join us for a virtual program combining music and technology (all skill levels welcome, no ability to read music required), make your own instrument, or check out one of our unlimited digital favourites (no wait times!).
Here's the story you created! Once upon a time a cow with bat wings, named Count Batcula, was in a hot air balloon that was struck by meatballs falling from the sky. Luckily Count Batcula had a magic trumpet in their hot air balloon. With it, they turned the meatballs falling from the sky into butterflies and they lived happily ever after. The End!
Boredom Buster
Let's make some music! Build your own instrument (or noise maker) using materials you have at home.
Need some inspiration? Check out these six DIY instruments!
Tired of washing your hands to the tune of Happy Birthday? Write your own hand-washing song. Remember your song needs to be at least 20 seconds long (the minimum time you should spend lathering and scrubbing)! You can turn your song into a hand-washing poster, too!
Share what you created with us! Post your story/design on social media using the #WVMLSRC hashtag and tag @westvanlibrary
Make Your Own Board Game - Week 3
Now that you’ve played a load of games, it’s time to plan your own. Brainstorm as many interesting stories as possible and then pick the one you like best. Next you’ll want to plan your ideas in detail. Think about the setting, characters, climax (or problem), and ending (or objective).
How will players move through the game?
Is the game cooperative or competitive?
How will the winner know they have won?
Planning a board game is a lot like planning to write a story. Use a mapping tool to help you plan yours!
Family Favourites Here are two of our unlimited access books (no wait times!) everyone will enjoy.
